Marrrrcela is a true California native, born to a hot Mexican mamma and a square East Coast papa in the 'burbs of the East Bay. At 19 she booked it down to San Diego in search of an A.A. degree and the perfect burrito, but grew weary after 2 years of black bean deprivation and the never-ending freeway sce ne. She eventually moved back to Oakland, a block away from The Burrito Shop, and enrolled in her first creative writing workshop at Berkeley City College (back when it was still Vista, yo!). It was around this time the stars aligned in perfect order, and she was introduced to a woman who would change her life in ways she never imagined, via genuine friendship and sexy hair… The Incomparable Tanya Mia.
And so the wheels were set in motion… Two years later Marcela moved to San Francisco (Upper Haighter!), started working towards her B.A. in Creative Writing at SFSU, and was given the opportunity to start working for the Pirate Salon. On a mission to research and start her first novel, she spent a year studying in Amsterdam, eating a lot of cheese and meeting a whole lot of crazy and beautiful people (with a holiday visit from Tanya Mia to celebrate Christmas and fix her raggedy hair!). Alas, now she is back in San Francisco, her home of homes, still writing, enjoying the amazing culture of the city, and scheduling the beautiful Pirates of the land who, like herself, believe in lookin’ good while supporting local businesses.
